Mawlynnong, also known as ‘God’s Own Garden’ is a small village in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. This tiny village with not more than 100 households has achieved a lot. It was awarded the title ‘The Cleanest Village in Asia’ 10 2003 by Discover India. There is 100 percent literacy rate and women here are all self-dependent. The village is beautifully connected with lanes and every household has a beautiful garden.
Though the village can be visited throughout year, the best time is June-October when it is lush green, looks very picturesque. If you want to experience the culture and traditions, you can visit during the festivals that are celebrated in and around this village. You will feel the happy vibes the moment you enter the village.
The Homestay is located in the heart of village near the church. There are 2 rooms with attached English toilets; one is a double bedded Traditional Bamboo Hut, another is a Triple Bedded Room. The house belong to the simple people who take care of all your needs during the stay. We stayed in the cosy bamboo hut which makes you experience the living style of Khasi people. Once we reached there was no light in the village but we were happy to see the solar lights and candle light which took us to the childhood memories. Also, the local food was delicious to enjoy.25/03/2019
