The Alpine Homestay, Jakhol

This wooden house is located in Jakhol village in Uttarkashi, known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Jakhol is awarded as the best adventure tourism village 2024 by the government of India. The village is located in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and is the base camp of Devkyara Bugal Trek. Bardsar trek also starts from Jakhol village.  The village is also recognized for the traditional houses made up of “Cyprus Wood ” and the unique architecture of the “Someshwar Mahadev Temple” with its unique artwork. This homestay is 66km from Purola and situated at such an altitude that it becomes a perfect spot for trekking during winter season and a bliss during spring season.

Nestled in the apple orchards, the homestay is surrounded by dense pine forest. It has ten rooms, six on the first floor and three on the second floor with the occupancy of three to four people. Two washrooms (one western style and one Indian style) are there on each floor. Rooms are designed in the wooden framework having majestic view of the surroundings. The homestay is perfect for trekkers, backpackers and groups.

How to Reach

Jolly Grant Airport (223 km) is the nearest airport with daily connectivity of flights from all major cities. Dehradun Railway Station (199 km) and Haridwar Railway Station (249 km) are the nearest railway stations from the village. Uttarakhand roadways bus, jeeps and private cabs are available for connectivity with the village. You can take a bus till Purola from Dehradun and further book a cab or shared jeep to reach the village. The route till Mori passes through beautiful lush pine forests and later the road goes alongside with the Tons river to enter the valley making it the journey of a lifetime. The homestay is 230 mts away from the road.

Food

Freshly cooked meals are served as per guest choice. Host has appointed a local chef who will cook authentic local food with regional flavors. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian meals are available on paid basis with prior notice. Freshly homecooked meals will be served to the guests with the delicacies like aloo ke gutke (fried potato), rajma, dal, baadi, bhangjeeri ki chutney, kafuli, kandali ki sabji, lingda ki sabzi,laal chawal, madua ki roti. If there any special preferences of the guests or want to customize any dish, they have to inform the host in advance.

The homestay belongs to Rajnath Singh Rawat who is a native of Jakhol Gaon, Uttarkashi. He is a student, currently pursuing his postgraduate degree from D. A. V. P. G college. He has 5+ years of experience in the field of  managing apple orchards. He also arranges treks for guests with a team of local youth. He lives here with his family lives and they collectively manage the homestay operations.
