Mugathihalli, Chikmagalur

Mugathihalli is a small picturesque village with dense forest and coffee estates in the outskirts of Chikmagalur, Karnataka. It stands at an elevation of 3400 ft and is covered with eye catching tea and coffee plantations making it one of the most popular spots for trekking and nature enthusiasts. To the north is Baba Budangiri, a mountain range in the Western Ghats, with 3 large caves said to be holy. The cascading Hebbe Falls lie deep in the coffee plantation area. The forested Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary in the northwest of Chikmagalur is home to elephants, tigers and leopards. It is also home to numerous temples including the Sharadamba Temple, Vidyashankara Temple, Kodanda Ramaswamy Temple, and Amruteshwar Temple.

The HomeStay

This colonial style bungalow is rooted in a huge fruit orchard amidst tall trees and coffee plants. Its carefully curated artifacts and colonial heritage furniture gives it an old world charm. There are 10 guest rooms spanning 3 houses in the farm. The Vintage Colonial House has 4 large rooms; each with a king size bed and an attached washroom. The Vintage ElJay house has 3 rooms; one with 2 king beds (accommodates 4), one with a single king bed and one room with 2 single beds. Each have their own washroom and an attached kitchenette. The Vintage Europa has 2 large rooms having 4 king beds each (each room accommodates 8 people) perfect for large families and groups.

Food

Freshly cooked local cuisine and Indian vegetarian food is served. Non-vegetarian is available only on request. Most of the vegetables supplied to the kitchen come from own organic farm. Breakfast is served as per your choice like Idli Sambaar, Sandwich, Butter Toast, Bread Omelette or Puri Bhaji. Dinner is served after discussion with the guests on what they prefer. We also have our own restaurant that serves delicious Malnad cuisine amongst others.

Charles Baptist and his family are resident of Chikmagalur for over 50 years. Every nook and corner of Chikmagalur is well known to him.  He is a good guide and a cook who along with his wife Anita takes care of the home and the guests. There is very hospitable staff to cater every need of your.
