Harmony Heritage Homestay, Mattancherry – Fort Kochi

Mattancherry is a small town in Ernakulam district of Kerala surrounded by backwaters all around. Located at a distance of about 10 Km from the present city of Kochi (Cochin) lies this small but significant town. It holds a significant historical past due to extensive foreign trade in the bygone days. The town is a perfect cultural blend of Kerala and Jews. It was the first official trade hub of the present Ernakulam district, trading in spices such as pepper and turmeric. The best way to explore the beauty and charm of this place is to wander through its narrow lanes at a leisurely pace that offer you many sights like the places of historic and cultural significance, the spice markets, the wayside shops selling myriad objects that form the true essence of this place.

It is a century-old heritage home situated in a quiet neighbourhood of Mattancherry. In 2019, the heritage home was refurbished and converted into a beautiful and luxurious homestay. The Stay has a beautiful harmony of the old and the new. It will transport you to a different era albeit with every modern amenity. Surrounded by coconut trees all around and the backwaters  of Arabian sea, this beautifully crafted homestay is an amalgamation of Kerala and colonial styles of architecture. The interior is charming with traditional wooden floors and ceilings. The destination is a perfect place for solo as well as group travellers seeking to dive into the traditional and colonial era of Jews.

The house has three rooms for its guests. A classic twin sharing room on ground floor, a superior double bedroom with a huge balcony on the first floor can accommodate 3 guests each. And the premium family room on the first floor has 2 double beds and can accommodate 4 people.  Separate beds are provided for extra guests in each of the rooms. Parking space is available inside the homestay. The house has a nice large garden to walk in, and there’s a seating area that is very soothing to spend time in. The host lives in the same property and provides its guests with true homely vibes.

How To Reach

Cochin International Airport (41 Km) is the nearest airport to Mattancherry. Ernakulum North and South (12 Km) are the nearest railway stations. The town is well connected by roads to various parts of the country. Public transport is easily accessible to commute from airport and stations to homestay. Paid Cab Service is also available and the host can be contacted for it. Also, guests can experience a tuk-tuk ride across the town while visiting tourist attraction points nearby.

Fresh homemade Kerala cuisine is provided in the homestay. Guests can enjoy both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Additionally, the meals include aromatic sea-food, such as shrimp, crab, prawns fishes, etc. Guests at the homestay can also enjoy continental or a Full English/Irish breakfast. Dosa/Idli with Sambar and Chutney, Puttu and Kadala Curry, Appam and Egg Curry, Chapati/Poori Bhaji, etc. are few of the Kerala delicacies which are mostly provided in the Breakfast. Know Your Host

The homestay runs in partnership by three people – Suresh Kumar Balaraman, Deepa Mathew and Boshin KS. All the three hosts are extensively experienced personalities in travel industry and are really humble and kind. Guests coming to this homestay would not only enjoy the aura of the place but also carry with them a suitcase full of learning, experiences and memories.

Deepa will be the primary person of contact for guests. She is a storyteller, farmer and entrepreneur. She left PhD program in Pharmaceutics to join the world of travel. Starting as a curator of tours in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry areas, she has worked with a specific focus on Climate Change Resistant Food Initiative and the Handloom sector in Chendamangalam. Boshin is the Chief Operating Officer and has ten years of experience in running a stay. He has worked with many prestigious hotel chains in the past and brings all the expertise. Suresh Kumar Balaraman is the owner of this prestigious homestay. He is a third-generation Tea Merchant, has travelled extensively and is a golf enthusiast.
