Laitumkhrah is located in the heart of Shillong. Staying in this locality is an experience in itself. Laitumkhrah has old architectural buildings giving it a colonial feel. This place is relatively cold as compared to other places in Shillong. The famous North East India’s Archdiocese of the Catholic Church is one of a highlight of Laitumkhrah. It also houses the famous Ramakrishna Mission of Shillong. In Khasi language ‘lait’ meaning ‘free’ and ‘umkhrah’ is the name of a river. So ‘Laitumkhrah’ means a place where the river “Umkhrah” originates.
It’s an old colonial house in Boscobel Compound that was built by the British tea planters in 1942 and was bought by local Khasi family in 1961, now converted into a charming home-stay. It has 2 tastefully done spacious bedrooms; one room has 2 twin beds and family room has a double bed and a special bed for child. Both rooms have attached toilet and bath. Also there is a dining area, a living room a beautifully maintained lawn. Every corner of the house has a character of its own.
