Laitumkhrah

Laitumkhrah is located in the heart of Shillong. Staying in this locality is an experience in itself. Laitumkhrah has old architectural buildings giving it a colonial feel.  This place is relatively cold as compared to other places in Shillong. The famous North East India’s Archdiocese of the Catholic Church is one of a highlight of Laitumkhrah. It also houses the famous Ramakrishna Mission of Shillong. In Khasi language ‘lait’ meaning ‘free’ and ‘umkhrah’ is the name of a river. So ‘Laitumkhrah’ means a place where the river “Umkhrah” originates.

It’s an old colonial house that was built by the British tea planters in 1942 and was bought by local Khasi family in 1961, now converted into a charming home-stay. This colonial Homestay has all modern facilities, yet it maintains its antique ambience and decor. There 2 tastefully done spacious bedrooms; one room has 2 twin beds and family room has a double bed and a special bed for child. Both rooms have attached toilet and bath. Also there is a dining area, a living room a beautifully maintained lawn. Every corner of the house has a character of its own.

Lovely experience

Mayborn aunty is a fantastic host. Not only does she welcomes you with warmth but makes you feel at home instantly. The colonial house is filled with relics and has a very homely feel to it. The cottage is located in a non noisy area very close to places of interest. You will love the food served at Boscobel homestay which Mayborn makes herself. Don't miss out on her wonderful homemade wines. Thank you Mayborn aunty.
