Dimapur is the commercial capital of Nagaland, sharing its borders with Assam.  Dhansiri River covers the boundary of the eastern part of the district, while the western part consists mostly of forests and hills. The historical monuments that are now in a state of ruin, have immense archaeological value and make it a center of attraction for tourists. It is the most densely populated city in the state. Rangapahar Reserve Forest located approximately 7 km from Dimapur is home to a variety of animals and birds that makes it a paradise for wildlife lovers.
