It is the winter seat of Lord Badri, whose idol is brought down from Badrinath temple to Vasudeva temple at Joshimath. Joshimath is where one of the four maths was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th-century. You can also witness the sacred Kalpvriksha, which is said to be 1200 years old. It is home to a number of temples like Narsimha and Gaurishankar as well.

How To Reach

Joshimath is also the gateway to numerous trails and treks amongg the snow clad mountains. It is from here that one traverse to the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The city is also a base for Auli, the famous Ski destination and Malari and Niti Valley that are known for their landscape similar to Ladakh.
The nearest airport is in Dehradun (226 km) and Rishikesh is the nearest railhead (250 km). Regular road services are available from Delhi, Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar to Joshimath.

Food is the highlight of the stay. You can relish delicious home cooked meals prepared in the family kitchen with lots of love and care. Enjoy aloo paratha or bread omelet with tea or coffee.  In addition to the regular north Indian meals that includes seasonal vegetables, dal, rice, roti, curd etc. you can also try local food like – koda roti, kandali sabji, pahadi raajma daal, jhangure ki kheer, gaderi sabji etc. on request. Both vegetarian and non- vegetarian options are available.
