Heaven’s Door Community Homestay – Kandara, Rudraprayag

Kandara village is located 18 km from Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand. The place falls near the famous Chopta and Kedarnath, so the natural beauty is heavenly. But what makes it special is the raw and unique pahadi experience. You get to stay with local families, experience Himalayan village life and try local cuisine.

There are 6 rooms spread across 4 houses; all houses at the walking distance from each other. One house has 3 rooms with a common western style bathroom; two houses have private bathroom for the guests just outside the room and one house has common bathroom. All the rooms are mountain-facing. Engage in farm activities, go on hidden nature trails, gorge on farm fresh local fruits and pahadi food. Warm hospitality, beautiful village with great views and simple organic food will make your stay extra ordinary.

They serve authentic homemade local Garhwali cuisine. Vegetable and cereals come from their own fields and vegetable gardens. Some dishes that you must try are Mandua ki roti, Silbatte pe bani chutney-Aadu, tamatar, aam, angoor, Jhangore ki kheer, Gehet ka paratha, Bhatt ka paratha etc. You will be amazed to see the variety of chutneys that will be served.

A group of women from Kandara, Rudraprayag have come together as a homestay collective. The ladies, Nirmala, Shakuntala, Beena, and Guddi, belong to the agrarian community and are also part of SHGs. Engage with them in trekking, sightseeing, fruit- picking, cultural immersion sessions, and more. We are also part of some unions and women-empowerment groups and are keen to learn more about business and marketing for our homestays.
