Srinagar

The historical town of Srinagar lies on the left bank of Alaknanda river in Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand. Its known for natural beauty, Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Kilkileshawr Temple established by Adi Shankaracharya. It is an important point to hault during Badrinath, Kedarnath and Char Dham Yatra.

The typical Garhwali homestay is located in a tiny village of Khalsen which has only 6 houses. It offers the beauty of mountains in its utmost raw and untouched form with various colors of nature that vary from sunrise to sunset and have a different hue in every season. You need to leave NH58 from Kirtinagar and an hour drive will take you to this heavenly place.

The homestay provides absolute solitude and is perfect for reading, writing, painting, photography or longstay. It’s a double storied house with 3 rooms for the guests on the first floor whereas the host family stay on the ground floor. Two guest rooms come with attached bathroom and private kitchen for guests who prefer to stay longer or cook themselves. Third guest rooms is only with a private outside bathroom. A group of 10 can be easily accommodated. The balcony offers a  stunning valley view and is a perfect place to relax.

Food

Local Garhwali food is served. Breakfast includes pancakes made from local grains like Millet, Jhora and Mandwa accompanied by homemade pickles, chutney and tea. If you are visiting during May- June, you can enjoy fresh fruits like Apricot, Kaphal and Raspberry. Rhododendron juice is also available in season. Meals include Chapatti made from local grains, rice, local Dal like Gehat and seasonal local vegetable. Do try local Kheer made from Jhora.

Raghuvir Singh Khandari will host you. He is a retired engineer from Hydel Power Department. He shifted to his ancestral home village Khalsen post retirement. Being a friendly person he decided to open the doors of his home to stay connected with the outer world. He is passionate about Garwali culture, farming and nature. Through this homestay he wants people to experience Garhwali culture.
