Darap Village Homestay – Pelling

Darap is a serene village located in West Sikkim near Pelling. It is surrounded by the grand pinnacles of the Himalayan extents and paddy fields. The locals here are called Limboos and are extremely welcoming. They have preserved their rich culture and traditions since ages. Visit traditional houses and participate in handicraft making; do bird-watching; or visit the caves at Kanchenjunga National Park. It is a base for several short treks around Pelling and to plantations of millet, cardamom, and corn.  This village is a beautiful retreat far from the hustle bustle. 

The homestay is situated around 6 km away from Pelling in a quiet surrounding. A short walk up the cemented steps surrounded by the calm forest leads you to these traditional cottages. There are 12 rooms for guest, 2 wooden, 2 stone Cottage with simple neat furnishings and an attached bathroom in each. They added 8 newly added rooms with attached bathrooms.  Stay with locals here to get a glimpse of the village life, the people of Sikkim, their language, culture, rituals, customs, and traditional food.

How to Reach

It is 26 km drive from Yuksom and 14 km from Pelling on the course to Khecheopalri and Yuksam. Pakyong is the nearest airport, 118 km from Darap Village.

You will be welcomed by a charming little family of Shiva Gurung. Radha Gurung, his wife, is a knowledgeable housekeeper who cooks delicious local food. His daughter Neysang and son Prabal support their parents whenever they visit their home during school/college vacation. His niece Kamala also lends a helping hand in managing the homestay. Shiva is member of Darap Eco-Tourism committee and Pelling Tourism Development Association. He is working for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism in and around the village.
